Welcome to my PTSD Information.

I am currently working on a new book, PTSD: Finding your own path.
Below is an exerpt from the book.

I cannot state strongly enough that recovery from PTSD is up to you! Yes, I know and understand that that what happened to you, during your deployment, was in no way your fault. The fact remains that the DoD or the VA will not fix it. They cannot. They do not know how, or they do not have all the tools.

One thing that no one thought about, or took into account with warfare over the last 15 or 20 years, is that people now have quick access to the Internet. Those with PTSD can be linked together. They can compare notes, talk about symptoms and discuss what works. This was unavailable to Vietnam Vets, who only now understand why they have felt so bad all these years. The spread of the effects of Agent Orange was not really well known until individuals started talking and getting information via the Internet. For years they suffered in silence. Peer support is much more available now thanks to the Internet, and peer support it vital to your ability to make a recovery. See more on this later in this book.

For you, this information is a good thing. Understand from the start that the VA is not going to fix you. As I said above, they do not know how. They have thousands of men and women returning from deployment, many more who are now alive due to greatly improved techniques on the battlefield. In the Vietnam era these people would have died. Now they are home, but with life-changing injuries.

No, you cannot cure your own TBI if you need surgery. But when the VA have done all they can medically for you, do not depend on them for repairing the results of TBI, understanding how to treat PTSD or giving you help living with both.
